1 Week Postpartum – Body After Baby

With all the hype going around about the new royal baby it’s easy to come across pictures of the new mommy Kate with her newborn baby. She’s such a beautiful woman and she looks amazing hours after baby. Of course she probably has a huge team to get her camera ready but with her bump after baby still showing she looks great!postbbabubump

I’m excited for her as I am for any new mom, it’s a wonderful experience. I remember being a new mom just a little over a year ago, and now doing it all over again with my new little one. There are so many things that you don’t expect, including how your body is going to react.

One thing I wasn’t prepared for was leaking milk – ahhhh.

Yep it happens and nursing pads will be your best friend, at least for a few months until your body gets used to the amount of milk the baby needs.

I’m always starving and thirsty.

I blame the breastfeeding for this one. Your body burns so many calories making that milk (GOOD THING!) But you need to replenish all your nutrients and calories. I find myself making sandwiches and eating cereal a lot, sometimes at 2 in the morning!

I had no idea when the baby bump would go down. Breastfeeding helped a lot the first time around, since the contractions it causes makes your uterus contract back to normal size. I never took a post baby bump pic after Scarlett but I did with June just the other day. Here’s my bump 1 week after baby.

1 week postpartum, body after baby

Still a bit prevalent but nothing like I was at 9 months. I’d say it goes back to about a 6 mo belly after delivery and will continuously go down from there.

There’s no experience comparable to becoming a mom.

Here’s to celebrating motherhood and the amazing journey of pregnancy and childbirth. What a wonderful experience…
