9 Budget Friendly Ways To Have a Dr. Seuss Storytime Party

I recently joined a homeschooling group of moms and we have been having so much fun getting together. I am so grateful to have found this group. We get together during the week and have age appropriate events. Last week we had our first bike rodeo and this week we had a storytelling birthday party for Dr. Seuss! The girls officially declared this as the “best party ever”. I loved the idea of having a storytime party. We planned this party in less than a week so a lot of it was DIY. The splurge? I had to get some amazing Dr. Seuss cupcakes made from a friend who also made a cake for our Disney’s Princess Elena themed party.

So what do you need to have for your own Dr. Seuss storytime party? See all the details below.

  1. Dr. Seuss Storytime – Gather the kids on the floor with blankets to read some of their favorite Dr. Seuss books.
  2. Indoor picnic – Have an indoor picnic. We let the kids eat pizza and fruit while we were having our storytime. They paid closer attention. 🙂
  3. Cat in the Hat Meet & Greet– Let one of the older siblings dress up as Cat in the Hat for a meet and greet. Our Cat was adorable in his DIY costume. 🙂
  4. Indoor Pinata – Hang a pinata from the ceiling and let the kids take turns hitting it. We have had pinatas in the past and don’t ask me why I never thought of this DIY indoor pinata!
  5. DIY Dr. Seuss Cupcakes – I printed out these Dr. Seuss cupcake toppers on card stock paper and used a craft similar to this one to cut them out and put them on some store bought cupcakes. Then, because I also wanted some really good bakery-quality cupcakes, I ordered some adorable Cat in the Hat cupcakes from a friend who is an amazing baker.
  6. DIY Printable Bookmarks – I printed out these Dr. Seuss printable bookmarks on card stock and then I laminated them with my laminator that I got on Amazon here that I use to save my girls artwork. Then I cut them out, punched a hole with a hole punch and tied a ribbon to them.
  7. Dr. Seuss Banners – We had two banners for the party. One was a Dr. Seuss book banner that I got from My Little Craft Things on Etsy here. This one was made from 6 different Dr. Seuss books! The second banner we used was Dr. Seuss themed and said Happy Birthday that I got from Elizabeth’s Home Goods on Etsy here.
  8. Decorate with Books – A Dr. Seuss storytime party can easily be decorated with Dr. Seuss books standing and lying around on tables. The kids had a great time looking through the books they hadn’t read yet.
  9. Play Games & Contests – Keep things fun with games using items you already have. We had a pogo stick challenge and a ‘keep the balloon afloat’ contest. The little ones loved it!Check out photos from the party below!
