I’ve been making my own scrubs for years now. I do them when I can because I love them. At the end of a long day I love being able to take a bath and use my scrub. I don’t get to do it as often now because of the kids, but this is how I get the time to myself that I need every so often. Sometimes I will make it a point to take even just 30 minutes to myself in the evening after the kids have gone to bed. Instead of going to my desk to work, I’ll head for the tub to take a relaxing bath.
It’s an absolute necessity these days and a way for me to unwind and prepare myself for the next day. Working from home has definitely helped me get better at managing my time and balancing work + family time and self-care.
I make my body scrubs using my all time favorite – organic coconut oil. I mean seriously, what can’t you use coconut oil for? I just recently made a moisturizer for my face using coconut oil and shea butter here that is absolutely amazing. This time I am using some fresh berries and mint! I have never used real mint leaves in a scrub before but I am really loving the way it came out. The smell of these fresh mint leaves is AMAZING. I used two frozen blackberries crushed. You will want to freeze them first and then crush them so they can be broken down. Using them this way makes the consistency somewhat powdery, which mixes well with the oil and gives it that pretty color. I have seen food coloring used in sugar scrub recipes before but I was looking for more of a natural way to give color.
Here is the recipe.
3/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup coconut oil
2 frozen blackberries crushed (for color)
10 fresh mint leaves (give or take)
And here’s what I did.
Mix the sugar and coconut oil together. Crush your frozen blackberries and add to bowl and mix. Take your fresh mint leaves, chop them up into tiny bits and add them into the bowl.
Making scrubs is sooo easy. You never have to buy those expensive body scrubs at the stores. I love making my own. Give it a try if you haven’t before!
