I started off as just a mom with a camera, wanting to take better photos of her kids. That turned into a passion that I wanted to pursue that eventually had me to want to capture that magic for other families. It started in 2013 after my second daughter turned 6 months old. I had been laid off from my job and wanted to find ways of making money from home. I had two little ones and the last thing I wanted to do was to go back into the corporate world and leave them. So, I got a camera, some editing software and set on my path to start a business.
Let me be clear and say that I have never had any formal training in photography or photo editing and I have never taken a photography workshop, although I do think those could be super helpful for training! I started off with a passion that developed into a skill by watching a ton of YouTube videos! 🙂 If I can do it, so can you!
Once you have done a little practicing and have watched some YouTube training videos, you need a website to get your photography out into the world. You could start right off the bat with a photography website where you promote your photography skills and market your pricing or packages. Or you can take a slower approach and start with a photography blog where you post your photos to simply share your passions with the world. WordPress is the best way to start because it’s the easiest way for you to be able to transition from a website that is simply there for sharing your photography journey to a money making website later down the road whenever you are ready.
