1 Week Postpartum – Body After Baby

1 week postpartum, body after baby

With all the hype going around about the new royal baby it’s easy to come across pictures of the new mommy Kate with her newborn baby. She’s such a beautiful woman and she looks amazing hours after baby. Of course she probably has a huge team to get her camera ready but with her bump after baby still showing she looks great!

I’m excited for her as I am for any new mom, it’s a wonderful experience. I remember being a new mom just a little over a year ago, and now doing it all over again with my new little one. There are so many things that you don’t expect, including how your body is going to react.

One thing I wasn’t prepared for was leaking milk – ahhhh.

Yep it happens and nursing pads will be your best friend, at least for a few months until your body gets used to the amount of milk the baby needs.

I’m always starving and thirsty.

I blame the breastfeeding for this one. Your body burns so many calories making that milk (GOOD THING!) But you need to replenish all your nutrients and calories. I find myself making sandwiches and eating cereal a lot, sometimes at 2 in the morning!

I had no idea when the baby bump would go down. Breastfeeding helped a lot the first time around, since the contractions it causes makes your uterus contract back to normal size. I never took a post baby bump pic after my first but I did with baby just the other day. Here’s my bump 1 week after baby.

Still a bit prevalent but nothing like I was at 9 months. I’d say it goes back to about a 6 mo belly after delivery and will continuously go down from there.

There’s no experience comparable to becoming a mom.

Here’s to celebrating motherhood and the amazing journey of pregnancy and childbirth. What a wonderful experience…

You look amazing for having a baby a week ago. Try not to get frustrated if your belly doesn’t gone down quickly and the weight doesn’t just fall off. Remember that it took 9 months to put the weight on and you should expect the same or a bit longer for it to come off.

I think you look great for having had a baby one week ago. On my first child, no one every told me I wouldn’t automatically go back to my prepregnancy size immediately. Imagine my surprise to find I still had a bump!

I gotta say, even with a team of people I am not sure I would’ve looked presentable at 1 week. My oldest didn’t sleep more than 2 hours at a time, and usually spent waking time screaming. I was so unsettled that I didn’t sleep the whole 2 hours and lived on barely 15 minutes at a time. It was so hard. You look amazing!

You look great! I agree that you go back to about a 6 month belly after. It takes quite a while for your belly to go down, and even then your body is made a little bit different after kids!

I couldn’t believe how amazing Kate looked just 24 hours later even with a stylist team helping her. x

You look fantastic! I think Kate looks great too. It is sad to see so many people criticizing her bump…obviously those people have never had a baby. It does take time for your body to actually get back to normal.

Many years ago, after I had my Daughter. I was leaving the hospital and a nurse ask me where my girdle was. I told her I didn’t have one. She told me I better get one….. I didn’t get one and did lose the after baby bump. I don’t think anyone wears girdles any longer.
