Baby Sleeping Tips

Baby Sleeping Tips and Baby Shusher Giveaway

Baby Sleeping Tips + Baby Shusher Giveaway

I remember when I was first pregnant with my first, I read all the baby books I could find.  I looked up all the must have items, for new moms and learned what worked for others. So now that I am an experienced mama 🙂 I want to do the same.

WOW, I can’t believe that I just called MYSELF an experienced mama when just a little over 15 months ago I wasn’t a mom at all, and now a mom to two.

When I was pregnant the first time, I remember reading a book called The Happiest Baby on the Block  and even before I read the book I had heard of the shushing that Dr. Karp talks about. This is something parents have been doing for years.

Tiny babies want to feel the same security of the womb. The shushing sound apparently mimics the sound of the blood flow through the arteries.

So when I was contacted by the inventors of the Baby Shusher to review their product, I was excited to get the opportunity to do it. I love trying out new items, especially for moms because I remember how I was when I was first expecting. So if I can do anything to help prepare a new mom for motherhood I jump at the chance!

The shushing method is not anything new, ever since we were babies, parents have been shushing babies to sleep.

Here are a few things that we do to help our babies fall asleep.

First off, make sure all baby’s needs are met – She has eaten, been changed and just seems tired but won’t fall asleep.

Swaddling – You need to swaddle babies snugly. If they can get their hands out of it and touch their face, it’s not snug enough. They will poke their little hands out in the middle of the night and touch their face and wake themselves up.

You can see a picture of baby here swaddled snugly with the Baby Shusher beside her.

Baby Sleeping Tips for New Moms and The Baby Shusher Giveaway

Rocking while Shushing – Sometimes swaddling does the trick by itself but if not, we try rocking her over our shoulders, still swaddled and shushing her. We have a Glider that we use to rock our babies. Most of the time, this is the perfect combination and baby falls right to sleep.

Pacifier – I personally offer the pacifier as a last resort and this is just my personal preference. They were both very good eater at the breast. I have heard, and I don’t know how accurate this is but I have heard that if babies get too much of the paci, they start to prefer that over the breast, since it feels very different to them. And moms will sometimes have a hard time getting these babies to latch on. Again, not sure how true this is since we don’t offer it all the time.

Self Soothe – When our babies start waking up after just falling asleep, we usually can place our hands across their chest and lightly pat them or rub back and forth while shushing and they usually fall right back to sleep. You want baby to learn to self soothe so that they can put themselves right back to sleep and won’t need to be picked up every time they move and wake themselves up.

So what do I think of  the Baby Shusher?

The Baby Shusher is not made to replace mom and dad. It’s just a simple device to give you a hand when you’re feeling exhausted in the middle of the night because your baby won’t go to sleep and the last thing you feel like doing is shushing for 30 minutes.

And when you have a crazy schedule like mine, chasing after a toddler who just learned to walk, while also trying to put a newborn to sleep, this is a perfect little invention.  I can’t be in two places at once, and having this little device helps me out when I need it.

It has an automatic shut off, so you can set it for 15 or 30 minutes and leave it by your babies bedside while they are falling asleep. It also has a volume control so you can turn it very low or high.

As my husband put it, so simple, yet GENIUS!

The only thing we wonder is why this wasn’t invented sooner! 🙂

I can confidently say that this is now on my list of Must Have Baby Products for Moms.

I am entering because I, no joke, haven’t slept more than three consecutive hours at a go since my youngest child was born 10 months ago. I am exhausted and willing to give anything a try. World’s worst sleeper, for sure.

Megan, I’m sooo sorry to hear that your baby isn’t a good sleeper. With our first it took us months to finally figure out what worked. Good luck w/the giveaway and hope my tips might be able to help a little…

Thanks for the giveaway! Mama of two little ones and always looking for awesome items like this. My babies both use white noise on their sound machines, which is the way to get them to sleep. I even used to have to play a CD recording of a vacuum cleaner in the car to stop the screaming! Yep — my kids are the only ones in the world that didn’t like the car!

Becky my first loved car rides, my 2nd forget it. We can take her on a ride and she won’t fall asleep and usually just continues to cry until someone picks her up.

I am defnitely not expecting 🙂 as I’m the grandmother of a beautiful little girl, who is a very light sleeper. My daughter just recently moved, so my granddaughter is a bit turned around in her sleeping habits.
