Essential oils seem to be everywhere you go these days. It seems like another trend right? But in all actuality, essential oils have been around for decades. I first heard about essential oils when we were dealing with our fertility issues several years ago. After going the route of traditional doctors and still suffering from multiple losses, I went the homeopathic route and started seeing a naturopath and acupuncturist. It was then that I first heard about the use of oils to help regulate different functions of the body.
I can’t say exactly for sure what worked back then, because we tried so many different things, but it was while I was seeing the naturopath and my acupuncturist that we became pregnant with our now 3 year old daughter. Since then, I have used oils to help me with my frequent headaches and migraines but haven’t delved more into them other than that. I use oils on other occasions, like when I make my own homemade body scrub recipes, but it wasn’t until a few months ago that I started becoming really interested in using them in my daily routine for myself and my children.
I started doing some research and discovered that there are so many uses for these oils….things like kids bug bites, skin irritations, sore muscles, energy, breathing, relaxing at bedtime – omg there are oils that can help with just about everything! So I dove in and I was determined to start using oils in my everyday routine. It was then that I discovered Young Living. I had heard so much about Young Living from friends who were already using these products. Not just for health benefits but also what they were doing for them financially. Young Living gives you the option to purchase the oils as a Retail customer at full price or as a Wholesale customer and get a 24% discount. Although Young Living does have a monthly auto-ship program where you can have oils shipped to you and earn free products each month, purchasing the starter kit in no way obligates you to sign up for that. There’s no obligation when purchasing the kit.
Since I was already a believer in these products, I chose the Wholesale Member option. If you want to read more about what being a Wholesale Member is, check out my oils page here . Or, if you already know you want to become a member CLICK HERE.
Talking with few of my friends about oils in the past, I knew that it could be overwhelming and confusing on how to use them. I remember when I first started using oils I had no idea what a carrier oil was, or when to dilute an oil versus diffuse and when I should ingest it. So that’s what I wanted to talk a little about today.
There are 3 ways to use them….Dilute, Diffuse or Ingest.
Dilute. All of the Young Living Oils are pure and very strong so you must dilute them in a carrier oil, unless it says so otherwise. This is for most oils – there are oils out there, like the Kids Scents Collection, that come already diluted but just check the bottle to be sure. I have a few of these on order and I can’t wait to get them!! 🙂 We use Organic Coconut Oil, which you can find on Amazon or at your local grocery store. The bottles will usually tell you how many drops to use when diluting. Since I am pregnant right now I’ve been diluting them even more than the bottles say. This was just a recommendation I found online from a mid-wife. For now, I am using a small jar to dilute the coconut oil with the oils and mixing them, then just using a cotton ball or q-tip to apply. I am about to purchase some Roller-ball vials so that I can keep some already diluted on hand.
Diffuse. So when would you diffuse oils and how do you diffuse them? My premium starter kit from Young Living came with a home diffuser and it is AMAZING! Honestly, it was one of the reasons that made me make the jump and just get the kit. It really is the best bang for your buck. All you do is fill it with water and drop a few drops of oil in it and it starts to emit the oil into the air like a humidifier. I love to diffuse Purification and Lavender. Lavender in the girls rooms help them sleep through the night.
Ingest. All of Young Living Essential Oils can be ingested and can be made into a drink mixture – like a tea, used in recipes or even put into a capsule to swallow. I have not used them this way – yet! But I am eager to learn more on this. I just started pinning some recipes that use some of the essential oils I have. Some of the more popular ones I’ve seen so far are Orange and Lemon. I’ve seen them used alot in baking. mmmmmmmmmmm
Where Can I Learn More?
First, check out my oils page here. There are many ways to go about learning how to use your oils. From what I’ve seen so far, the Essential Oils community is HUGE, there are resources everywhere. It’s like a huge family where everyone gets excited and passionate talking about what they love.
Becoming a Member of the Oil Community
The best way to start learning about oils is to become a member of a community. I am part of a growing Young Living Oil community where we have access to forums, Facebook groups where questions and searches can be made at anytime, classes and tons of amazing webinars. These resources have been crucial to me when it comes to learning more about essential oil use. And if you are interested in the business side of it, there’s things for that too!
If you decide to join me in this journey and become a Wholesale Member you will get the following after signing up.
1. An invite to our private Facebook group where you can ask questions and search for answers.
2. The option to do a free two-week business boot camp, join a business builder Facebook group and access to monthly builder calls.
2. You’ll get 11 amazing oils to start this journey.
4. Sample oils + samples of the drink- ningxia red.
5. Little cards on each oil + little sample bottles. This is great if a friend wants to try one…. Just put a few drops in a sample bottle and share!
6. The product guide and YL EO magazine.
Oils can seem intimidating when you first begin, but if you join a community that wants to walk with you hand in hand, that in my opinion, is something very special.
What Does it mean to be a Member?
First, signing up as a Wholesale Member does NOT mean that you are signing up to sell oils. There is no pressure to do so. There are NO monthly minimums, fees or sales quota’s to meet just by signing up. However, you will receive a member number that you can share with friends and family that are interested in purchasing essential oils and you can receive bonuses and commissions on purchases they make from you. Think of it this way, you find a restaurant that you really love, naturally you begin talking to friends and family about it, the food is great, the atmosphere is amazing, your friends and family become interested and visit the restaurant based off your recommendation, will the restaurant give you commission from their visit for your referral? Nope. But Young Living will! There’s definitely no obligation, but if and when you do share your testimonies and experiences you can start receiving bonuses and commissions from Young Living for your referrals.
To become a Member, you would start by purchasing the Premium Starter Kit from the Young Living website. After signing up on the website and purchasing your Starter Kit, you automatically become a wholesale member of Young Living and can purchase oils and other items at wholesale price and receive a 24% discount off the retail price. You’re under zero obligation to buy any other products as a wholesale member, but if and when you do, you will receive 24% off!
Think of it like a Sam’s Club membership. Your starter kit purchase is like your membership fee that makes you eligible to receive a discount for future purchases, you can choose to shop at Sam’s for your future purchases or go to your grocery store down the street and pay retail price.
