This is part of a sponsored promotion with React Mobile. However, all opinions expressed are my own.
I am a BIG supporter of entrepreneurs, especially ones that are creating new technology that could potentially protect my family someday. So when Robb Monkman, founder and creator of React Mobile contacted me about his new mobile app, I was happy to take a look and discover what he created.
What struck me most with this was the fact that he created this app after being a victim himself. He was held at gunpoint during a home invasion during his college years. So he wanted to make an easily accessible security device that could silently and discreetly send an emergency alert.
And really, what is more accessible than your cell phone? For me, it’s one of those things that I never forget.
Now, I can talk about this app all day. I think it is really awesome what he created here, but here’s a short video that gives a really great explanation of how it all works. It’s animated so don’t worry, it will keep your attention. 🙂
It works like this…
Once the app is open, it is able to send an immediate alert to authorities, emergency responders and your selected contacts via email and text message WITH a direct link to your GPS location, should you activate the shield. The messages go out alerting your chosen contacts that something could be wrong. And, if you link up your social media accounts it can post alert messages to your Facebook and Twitter accounts too!
Now I don’t know about you but if I were to ever be in an emergency situation, I want everyone to know exactly where I am.
What about false alarms? Well if the shield is activated, the app will prompt you to dial 911 (screenshot above) with the tap of a finger, it will not automatically dial 911.
The Follow Me feature is a Premium feature that lets someone else track your GPS location from their own smart phone. More peace of mind for parents! Here is how Robb Monkman describes this feature.
Our premium “Follow-me” feature allows users’ friends and family to track them in real-time whenever they are concerned for their safety. People frequently feel unsafe and uncomfortable but may not want to trigger an SOS alert. Examples include , a solo or late night runner (or runner in the woods), a Realtor meeting a new client for the first time in an unfamiliar place, a student walking home along a dark pathway, an online dater who is meeting a date for the first time. These are just some examples of when people might want the peace of mind of knowing that their trusted, self-selected contacts are tracking them in real-time. If an emergency situation occurs a user can escalate to an SOS alert, however, if for some reason the user can’t issue an alert (i.e. they are attacked), their friends will know where they are if they go missing thanks to the last known GPS and will be able to alert the police.
I wish I could keep my girls little forever, but I know they have to grow up someday, and I’m so glad there is technology like this available. Being a new mom to two girls I have new worries and fears everyday, and I know those worries will never go away, rather just replaced by NEW ones as they get older. And there is absolutely no-cost whatsoever that isn’t worth their safety. Not to mention, a mothers peace of mind is GOLDEN.
So what do you think moms? Can you see yourself using an app like this with your own kids?
