As a blogger, being able to reach people is so important. We write, we share and we want to interact. It’s what we do, that’s why we blog. And if you can’t see what I write and share, then you can’t interact and my life as a blogger becomes harder. Facebook has been making our lives more difficult lately. My posts on Facebook that used to reach hundreds have now dwindled down to double digits and apparently it’s going to get worse unless I pay them to reach you.
I came across an article the other day – The End Of Organic Reach = The End Of Facebook? The article says that Facebook revealed in a leaked sales deck sent to partners that, unless you pay for ads, your organic reach is only going to get worse.
Worse? How much worse can it get? I’m not waiting around to find out.
I started thinking about my other options. And Google+ stuck out. Apparently a big potential SEO boost I’ve been missing out on. I came across this article How To Hack Google Plus For SEO Value. The article says that plus +1’s and shares on your Google+ posts have a direct correlation to your posts SEO.
“It is not the +1’s themselves that are causing the high rankings of posts but the fact that most +1’s on a site result in a shared post on Google+, which creates a followed link back to the post. It’s instant organic link building.”
The other day I asked a fellow blogger, who has a very strong presence on Google+ for some advice. She said that investing time and energy into Google+ now, will pay off heavily in the future and that it would only be beneficial for me. She also said that growing your Google+ circles and promoting your blog posts is important, but to use it for more than just that. She said it’s an opportunity to make connections with others who share the same interests. It’s about interaction.
You can find me on Google+ here. I’d love to connect with you. I am learning as I go but so far the experience with G+ has been really great. I was a hardcore Facebook user and it took me a little while to get used to the idea but here I am, trying to urge you to come along for the ride too.
